CATS for University

Creating Accessible Teaching and Support (CATS) is a web based information source that provides up to date, accurate and comprehensive information about inclusive teaching, learning and assessment strategies, accommodations and support services for people with disabilities.

CATS aims to encourage equitable, inclusive access to university education for people with disability. CATS is hosted by the University of Tasmania, and was funded by the Australian Learning & Teaching Council.

Choosing Your Path, Disclosure: It's a Personal Decision Disclosure of disability presents a number of challenges & choices for people with a disability, particularly those participating in education and employment. Choices may include 'Do I need to disclose my disability', ''when do I disclose my disability', 'how do I disclose my disability', 'what are my rights', 'do I have responsibilities when I disclose'. This site provides information and resources about learning disabilities (LD). A learning disability can affect the way in which a person takes in, remembers, understands and expresses information. People with learning disability are intelligent and have abilities to learn despite difficulties in processing information.

Beyond Expectations: Profiling People with a Disability in Employment

This DVD presents video profiles and stories of 55 people with disabilities (hearing, physical, learning / neurological, intellectual, psychiatric, vision) who are succeeding in the workforce. These can be enjoyed by case workers, teachers, family members etc. The DVD aims to assist in career planning, to increase employer awareness and expectations, and to alleviate misconceptions about OHS implications of people with disabilities undertaking certain occupations.

The Disability Education and Employment News

The Disability Education and Employment News is a fortnightly e-mail newsletter for disseminating information regarding the employment of and the education of people with a disability in the postsecondary environment.

The newsletter includes information on:

  • conferences, workshops and other events;
  • resources;
  • calls for expressions of interest and input;
  • reports;
  • scholarships and
  • associated news items in the media

It is currently distributed through the ANSWD, Austed, OZAdvocacy and PDCA discussion lists.

How to submit material or promote an activity:

AusTED Listserv The ausTED listserv is an initiative of the Australian Tertiary Education Network on Disability (ATEND).  It aims to facilitate discussion and information sharing primarily amongst disability support services personnel and teachers in tertiary education and training. austed-list will also contain information and ideas of interest to students with disabilities, their families and members of the general community.

Australian Adapted Technology User Group (AATUG)

Australian Learning Disability Discussion List -- AusLD-list

The AusLD-list is a discussion list for discussing issues regarding Learning Disability, and related neurological disorders in schools, TAFE, Universities and Employment across Australia.

The AusLD-list aims to promote:

•   the discussion of issues related to LD

•   answer people’s inquiries regarding LD

•   and disseminate news and events related to LD in Australia

The discussion list is open to anybody wishing to discuss LD in Australia.

Disability Employment Policy-List (DEP-List)

The DEP-List is a dissemination and discussion list on the employment of people with a disability, set up for those who have an interest in the employment of people with a disability in Australia and/or Internationally.

DEP-List is a resource, a network to enable the sharing of information and ideas, to improve communications between those interested in the employment of people with a disability, to assist in discuss possible solutions and develop strategies.

Disability Education Network (DEN) List

DEN is the framework established in 2000 , to faciliate the creation of a cross-sectoral forum of staff from schools, Vocational Education and Training, universities, employment services, and post-school services responsible for supporting students with a disability, or ongoing medical condition, throughout their studies and into their chosen post-school pathway. A listserver, 'den-list', has been established to support the Network and to encourage communication between staff.

DEN is a service for professionals working directly with students with a disability, or who have an interest in disability issues, and who are located in the Hunter and Central Coast Regions of NSW.
